The advertisement slogan Powered By refers to a vehicles engine, power plant, or propulsion unit and is meant to infer that this vehicle is high performance. Whether it’s a car, boat, or an airplane, the term Powered By lets the public know that this vehicle will perform at a high level. Powered by Howard has the same meaning only drummer Kenny Howard is the power plant and music is the vehicle. With race engine like precision, Kenny propels the music through twists and turns with dependability and smooth transition never settling for anything but the best.  From the first song to the last encore, you need only look at the bass drums to see the slogan Powered by Howard.

Kenny Howard is a Nantucket Island native born son who took to playing the drums at an early age noting that the solitude of being born on an island enabled him to learn the drums easily with little or no distractions. Kenny applied his craft early on playing with local bands at the ripe old age of fifteen appearing on many stages to play anything from oldies to the contemporary music of the day. He learned the importance of the drum chair and compared it to the director’s chair in that the drummer runs the show like a director of a motion picture. He is responsible for the tempo of the show and has to insure that every song goes off without a hitch. Even today, Kenny still uses that analogy to make certain that every show and every recording session goes as smoothly as possible. Playing the drums in front of large crowds at an early age also helped Kenny to mature as a musician much sooner than most other musicians his age. Armed with vast experience a good sense of humor and a relentless thirst to be the best, Kenny never stops pursuing the knowledge needed by today’s drummer to survive in the music industry.

Kenny’s playing experience started in the night clubs of Nantucket playing with such acts as The Stanley Brothers Band where he was introduced to playing in front of large audiences. The audiences only got larger as he joined The Kings where he was asked to play a diverse set of music night after night with the relentless intensity of the first song of the first set. This experience led to the Vandels where the popularity of the band would find them on stages where security had to lead them to and fro the venues. On many occasions Kenny would witness fans trying to access the show by crawling through windows, through fire exits, often having to be saved by security from a certain nasty fall. During this time of huge crowds and crazy fan antics, Kenny also started to hone his recording skills by doing sessions for friends and new acts. These sessions led to a band called The Siz where again he played in front of great crowds racking up the shows and adding to an already impressive resume at the age of twenty. Before long, Kenny found himself playing five nights a week gaining massive amounts of experience playing many different styles and constantly adding to his knowledge base. He starting sitting in for absent drummers with little or no rehearsal to challenge himself all the while maintaining steady gigs. With the band ACK, Kenny once again enjoyed the success that comes with a great band playing the best venues with the biggest crowds. It was with ACK that Kenny started to wonder what NYC was all about being prompted to try by the various venue and show promoters. Playing in New York City was like a pilgrimage to Kenny knowing that anyone who is anyone plays there. He played with some great bands in NYC and was able to gain more knowledge of drumming and the music business. Between trips to NYC, Kenny maintained a busy session schedule and began to study the instrument with Gary Chafee in Boston. Between trips to New York and Boston and points East, West, North, and South, Kenny met up with singer songwriter guitarist Jimmy Whip and started a fast friendship. Both Kenny and Jimmy share many of the same influences and before long a songwriting partnership started. Not long after the partnership began The Jimmy Whip Project was born touching upon the influences they both share and the same relentless pursuit for perfection they possess. The Jimmy Whip Project is the perfect vehicle for Kenny to display all the lessons he has learned over the years and armed with this knowledge, The Jimmy Whip Project is truly Powered by Howard. Kenny is endorsed by Pork Pie drums, Amedia cymbals, Accapella drumsticks, and XL Specialty cases.
